Users of internet services in Mali gathered in the collective "#Mali100Méga", have denounced the slowness and expensive cost of the internet speed offered in the country. During a press conference set up on 3rd September 2015, after many lobbying activities on social networks, the organisers of "#Mali100Méga" declared that Malian consumers a permanent, unlinked and high speed internet connection in order to work efficiently.
But, according to the collective, Malitel, the national operator, appears incapable for some years now to provide internet connections of quality though the company has a local loop. For Orange Mali, it is rather the "ill will" to improve the quality of the internet service which characterises the company, according to the collective. Result: the highest speed offered to users is limited at 384 kilobits for FCfa 36,000 per month (USD 61.9). At this speed and rate, the collective "#Mali100Méga" thinks that Mali is one of the African countries with the slowest and most expensive connection
Tidiane Ball, one of the founding members of "#Mali100Méga" is firm: "We wish to be immediately offered a permanent, unlimited internet connection with speed as per the norm today (from 8Mbps to 20Mbps) at affordable prices (from FCfa 20,000 to 60,000/month)". These speeds at these rates would lead to an increase in the use of internet in Mali and would develop the sector, he added.
