Congo: Telecom operators have up till next December to improve their services

The Congolese minister of posts, telecommunications and digital economy, Léon Juste Ibombo (picture), organized a meeting in the framework of the midterm assessment of measures implemented by telecommunication operators to improve the quality of their networks and services. The meeting held on October 12, 2017 followed the one in September during which the minister asked MTN, Airtel and Azur, to comply with the terms and conditions of their respective contracts.

The official added that though there were improvements in the services, there is still much to be done. “The government received many complaints about the services you offer (…) quality is not an option, it is an obligation (…) there can be no compromise on consumers’ satisfaction, which is, incidentally, one of the government’s major concern beside the technical service performance indicators’ in your contracts,” Léon Juste Ibombo stressed.

He explained that the repeated complaints the government received are about high communication charges, non-repayment of airtime in case of extended technical failures, increase of calls and SMS charges or customer services not being available when needed.

The telecom operators have up till December (about 2 months from now) to comply with the terms and services. In this regards, a new assessment meeting will be held next month.
