Competing telecom operators Mauritius Telecom and Telma are in a race for the acquisition of the second telecommunications services operating licence in the Comoros. The two companies, in addition to Shyam Telecom and Vihaan Networks, represented by the Tanzanian Quality Group, are part of the four companies being considered for this operation. By the coming month of September, the winner of this tender will be known.
It was in April that the National Information and Communication Technologies Regulatory Authority (ANRTIC) invited this bid for the acquisition of the second telecom licence of the country. Lasting 15 years, the “global” and renewable licence will allow the future winner to operate all electronic communications services.
The Comoros have always been considered by the International Union of Telecommunications (UIT) as one of the countries where telecoms tariffs are the highest in the world, like Ethiopia, due to the monopoly enjoyed by the national operator.
