In the framework of 4th edition of the “Un etudiant-un ordinateur” (One computer-One student) programme, the government of Senegal has set aside, this year, a budget of 1.5 billion CFA to provide 20,000 computers to students, SeneNews reported. The budget was disclosed by Aboubacry Niane, director for funding of higher education institutions and national coordinator of the programme, on February 2016 in Dakar, at the launching ceremony of the 2016 edition.

Once again, DBM Maroc was selected for the provision of the devices. Indeed, during the launching ceremony, the Moroccan firm signed with the Minister of Higher Education and Research, the renewal agreement for its contract. According to SeneNews, DBM Maro offers tablets and computers ranging from 30,000 CFA to a little more than 180,000 CFA. Prices which have been lowered due to the provision of a State subsidy of 67,000 CFA and an exemption policy for each computer, Aboubacry Niane added.

With the 20,000 new computers which are going to be provided students this year, a total of 46,000 were delivered via the programme. From 2013 when the programme was launched to 2015, a total of 26,000 students have received these computers, said Aboubacry Niane.

The “Un etudiant-un ordinateur” programme was launched to ease access to Internet and IT by students. The programme aims students from public and private universities.
