Users of Orange Tunisie will soon be able to send and receive money, top-up their or others’ credit balance, renew an internet bundle and pay other bills from their mobile phone. Following the example of various other African markets, the French company has decided to introduce in Tunisia, its mobile money service.
Orange Money will be launched in partnership will Société Monétque Tunisie (SMT). Once operational, Tunisia will become Africa’s 15th market where Orange will be making its mobile money service available. Other countries include Botswana, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, Tunisia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic. In all these countries, in addition to allowing the sending and receiveing of money, Orange’s MM (Mobile Money) service enables the user to purchase goods and pay bills like water and electricity bills, foodstuff, travel tickets, insurance bills, etc. Some users even have the possibility to access their bank account. A number of services which makes the daily life easier.
In 2015, Orange Money counted close to 100,000 branches, more than 17.4 million users, 360.2 million transactions for €7.6 billion worth of transactions. These results should, by the end of 2016, increase considerably.
