Mauritania: Eutelsat and Global Technologies to modernize Mattel’s mobile and data network

Friday, 18 November 2016 17:49

To boost internet access and provide better services to users, especially to those living in places far from its terrestrial networks, mobile telephony operator Mattel, subsidiary of Tunisie Telecom, has decided to modernize its VSAT equipment. It has to this end called unto the expertise of Global Technologies which specializes in the installation, operation and maintenance of critical technical infrastructures and systems.

Global Technologies, in collaboration with Internet Service Provider via satellite Eutelsat, will upgrade Mattel’s network until a latest generation solution is deployed in the country. Once this is achieved, Mattel will have VSAT antennas all over the territory with which it will connect its mobile and internet base stations to the Eutelsat 8 West B satellite, without using terrestrial networks.

Mattel’s move to modernize its equipment will help it provide its mobile and internet users, including those situated in the most remote parts of the country, and perform better, financially, than in the first half of 2016.

In an interview with Jeune Afrique, Nizar Bouguila, Chief Executive Officer of Tunisie Telecom, said the company’s turnover rose by 7% compared to the last year. He however did not disclose the exact figure.
