On February 18, 2016, mobile operator Zain Sudan, subsidiary of the Kuwait telecom group Zain, received authorization from Sudan’s government to market its 4G services in the country. According to the Kuwait press agency KUNA, an agreement was signed in this regard between the firm’s CEO, Al-Fateh Orwah and director of National Telecom Corporation, Yahya Abdullah. Present at the signing was Tahani Abdallah Atia, the Minister of ICT.
During the speech he gave at the signing ceremony, Tahani Abdallah Atia said he was glad that the country would now have access to high-speed internet. He said it was a “memorable event”. Al-Fateh Orwah added that 4G’s arrival is a key milestone for Sudan’s telecom sector. It will broaden horizons in terms of access to information, he said.
Rivaling with MTN Soudan and Sudatel’s Sudani, Zain Soudan by launching 4G reinforces its position in the market. Last year, the telecom firm announced it would disburse about $200 million to deploy 4G in Khartoum and was only waiting for government’s authorization to start marketing the high-speed service. Now, It is done.
