An IT development strategy to soon be elaborated for Burundi

Monday, 22 October 2018 18:13

Burundi will soon have an IT development strategy whose goal is to make the sector a growth driver. Indeed, on October 19, 2018, in Bujumbura, Jean-Jacques Massima-Landji (photo), representative of the International Telecommunications Union in Central Africa and Madagascar, declared that the 2BDI 0015 project for IT institutional reforms in Burundi launched in 2014 has been completed.

Speaking during feedback meeting for the country’s digital strategy and new IT regulations, the representative explained that the innovative and adequate regulatory framework that will soon be elaborated will contribute to the development of the digital economy in Burundi. This more appropriate judicial framework will also help improve the socio-economic conditions of residents, youth and women notably, by placing greater emphasis on access, new uses and security.

Let’s remind that in the past, Burundi had adopted an IT development strategy but, the International Telecommunications Union’s diagnosis revealed important weaknesses. This is the reason why 2BDI 0015 project was launched with the support of the special United Nations agency to correct those weaknesses.
