Congo: Airtel Money users can now receive money from outside via WorldRemit

Wednesday, 23 March 2016 18:55

In Congo, Airtel Money users can now receive money from outside. To do so, the sender just has to use the WorldRemit app. This way, receivers no more have to go to agencies that provide international money transfer services. Money is directly sent to their mobile phones and can be retrieved at any Airtel Money transfer kiosk.

In the country where less than 18% of population has a bank account, the Mobile Money service helps individuals transfer and receive money to or from family and friends, pay bills or perceiving wages. Alix Murphy, Chief Analyst and Mobility specialist at WorldRemit, said WorldRemit, by insuring money can be sent from outside to        Airtel Money accounts, allowed Congolese from the Diaspora to easily provide financial support to their family members in the country.

The Democratic Republic of Congo, with the Airtel Money service, thus joins other countries where WorldRemit is present through a local operator. Such countries include Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia or Ghana where MTN Money allows to receive money sent from outside via WorldRemit, on mobile phones.
