November 18, 2015, during the Forum Information and Communication Technologies 4 All (ICT4All) which took place in Hammamet, Tunisie Telecom proceeded to another 4G test. This time however, the test was direct, in the presence of government executives including Prime Minister Habib Essid. With the help of telecom equipment manufacturer Alcatel-Lucent, the traditional operator reached 135.8 Mbps of bandwidth against the theoretical 150 Mbps.
Tunisie Telecom’s test for download revealed a significant 127.8 Mbps difference in bandwidth for 4G against 3G. This performance is quite satisfactory for the head of state and the minister of information technologies and communication, Noômane Fehri. Eager to start exploiting the technology, Tunisie Telecom told Habib Essid and the minister of ICT it was technically ready to deploy its 4G network and launch its commercial offers. In fact, the call to tenders for exploitation licence of the technology was launched on November 3, 2015.
Until now, Tunisie Telecom appears to be the only telecom operator to have tested 4G in Tunisia. The firm has in fact, been repeating the test to convince all subscribers and associated authorities of its expertise in the area. On 10 September 2015, the firm proceeded to the first test for 4G. It later repeated it in October with Qualcomm.
