Nigeria: Glo records highest data penetration rate in Q1 2017

In its quarterly report on the telecom industry, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has revealed that Globacom (also known as Glo) recorded the highest data penetration rate among the four operators present in the country. 

According to the document, Glo had a total of 27,021,200 internet users, thus 72% of its total number of subscribers (37,328,827) at the end of the quarter.

Etisalat came second in terms of data penetration with 68% of its subscribers’ pool which stood at 19,621,086. Next were Airtel and MTN with 56% and 51% internet penetration rates respectively.

Over the past two years, Globacom has remained the number one network for data services. This in a context where overall number of internet users in the country slumped to about 90 million at the end of the previous quarter, from around 92.5 million at the end of Q1 2016.
