Algeria: Mobile 4G to come in Q1 2016

Thursday, 24 December 2015 03:49

Algerians might be able to access 4G during Q1 2016. They will hence enjoy a broadband of more than 50Mbps, required for streaming, fast downloading, Voice over IP. Algeria’s minister of Posts, Information and Communication Technologies, Imane Houda Faraoun, announced this during the “40 years of spatial telecommunication at the service of citizen” ceremony organized by Algérie Télécom Satellite (ATS) on December 22, 2015.

The fact that the minister made this announcement certainly means that the associated terms of references which were to be ready by the end of the year for the implementation of the technology already are. During an inspection visit to Alger’s wilaya on August 24, 2015, Houda Imane Feraoun previously said his ministry and ARTP were working in collaboration with telecom operators. The first draft of the terms of reference had, as a matter of facts, already been submitted to ARTP for reviewing, Houda Imane Feraoun then said.

Algerians are not completely new to 4G. Indeed, since last year, some have been using it, but only through localized fixed-lines. The alternative technology implemented by Algérie Télécom mainly aimed to secure business relations of companies.
