Ghana: MTN to upgrade services quality with an investment of $144 million, in 2018

Monday, 26 March 2018 17:08

Last week in Cape Coast, during a meeting with the media in the Central Region to present MTNGhana’s strategic vision, Pala Asiedu Ofori, the firm’s Corporate Services Executive, revealed that MTN Ghana would invest $144 million to improve the operator’s services quality in 2018.

She explained that MTN Ghana was planning to add 230 new urban sites and 200 rural sites to its telecommunication network. The operator is also planning to deploy an additional 695 km of optic fiber to connect 20,000 households.

Furthermore, Teddy Hayford-Acquah, Central and Western Regional Head of Technical Services, said the company will partner with Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) in the framework of the rural telephony project which aims to ensure universal telecom coverage across the country, with particular regard to extending connectivity in rural areas.

With these investments, MTN Ghana wants to widen the gap that separates it from the other telecommunication operators. For the record, on December 31, 2017, MTN Ghana was the local telecom market’s leading company with 47.58% of market share ahead of AirtelTigo (resulted from the merger of Tigo and Airtel in November 2017) which held 26.02%, Vodafone with 24.25%, Glo Mobile with 2.09%, and Expresso with 0.06%.
