More than just faster internet speeds, the 5G rollout will revolutionize education, healthcare, business, and innovation in Eswatini. It will support e-learning, smart agriculture, e-commerce, and advanced digital solutions, empowering individuals and enterprises alike.
Eswatini Mobile has invested over E30 million (1.6 million USD) to deploy 40 cutting-edge 5G base stations across the Matsapha and Manzini corridor, the company announced on March 24. This development, achieved just seven years after the company’s inception, positions Eswatini at the forefront of technological advancement in Africa.
"This is a truly remarkable milestone for Eswatini," stated Sydney Sichula, CEO of Eswatini Mobile. "This achievement not only demonstrates Eswatini's capacity for greatness but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for the entire African continent.”
The launch aligns with His Majesty King Mswati III’s vision of transforming the Kingdom into a first-world nation, bringing high-speed connectivity, economic opportunities, and enhanced digital experiences to Emaswati. While 5G coverage is currently available only in Matsapha and Manzini, Sichula assured that expansion to other regions is on the horizon.
Eswatini is advancing its digital landscape, as highlighted in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) report "Measuring Digital Development – ICT Development Index 2024," where the country scored 70.4 out of 100 points (optimal connectivity). This achievement underscores progress in digital infrastructure and connectivity. With continued investment, Eswatini is set to accelerate digital transformation, boost economic competitiveness, and expand access to high-speed internet, solidifying its position as a regional leader in ICT development.
