(Ecofin Agency) - The next Africa Internet Summit will be held in Dakar, Senegal, from April 29 to May 11, 2018.

This event which will gather more than 300 participants especially TIC’s experts from Africa and beyond as well as internet services’ users will focus, among others, on internet management, connected devices’ technology, IP addressing and management of internet domain name system.

For the record, during a press conference last April 14, Abdou Karim Sall (photo), MD of Senegal’s telecom and post office regulatory authority (ARTP), presented IPV6 protocol as a talking point of great importance. This IP addressing protocol is set as a response to the extensive development of IP-compatible devices, directly connected to network, which cause a rapid depletion of addresses under the Ipv4 protocol currently used.

According to the official, the world is moving to “5G internet and mass connectivity, thus Ipv6 is the most suitable protocol”.  With a particular focus on Senegal, Abdou Karim Sall revealed that the telecom sector’s authorities agree to adopt this protocol, expecting the coming event to be a great success and help further develop the sector.
