In Algeria, the mobile operators Djezzy, Mobilis, and Ooredoo will benefit from additional telecom spectrums to fix the network disruptions observed over the past 7 days. The decision was taken on August 25, 2020, during a meeting between the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Brahim Boumzar, and senior executives of telecom companies present in the country.
The meeting follows an order by the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to implement a “definitive solution to the problem of low Internet speed” in the country. During a council of ministers held on August 23, the Head of State stressed the need for quality Internet connectivity to complete the ongoing digitization strategy.
According to Brahim Boumzar, the release of the telecom spectrums will be done in coordination with the Regulatory Authority of Post and Electronic Communications (ARPCE).
