The mobile telephony operator Tigo Sénégal hired the french firm Sagemcom to extend its optical fiber network. Tigo explains that this extension shows its support to the company based in Senegal in their digital transformation and in their development by proxy. Indeed, with the extension of the optical fiber network, a larger number of local companies can have access to quality connection which is beneficial to their actvities.
Apart from companies, Tigo Sénégal also plans to offer its services to individuals. It wishes to extend its presence in the Fiber to the home segment on the rise with consumers’ demand for fast internet connection (beause of the development of new uses like video streaming and web-TV). "This partnership that we just signed falls within the framework of our strategy which consist in deploying inovative technologies that will let us offer performing digital services to our individual and corporate clients”, said Mass Thiam, managing director of Tigo Sénégal.
Tigo Sénégal actually has a network of 1,300 kilometers of fiber optics. According to the company, the extension of its network falls within the framework of its ambition to connect the whole country and promote internet for all in accordance with the Senegal Digital 2025 strategy.
