From May 17 to May 21, 2016, Guinea’s government will organize in Conakry a fair entitled “Webdays and Digital Entrepreneurship Week”. The news was revealed at a joint press conference held on April 23, 2016, by Moustapha Mamy Diaby, Minister of Telecommunication and Digital economy, and Gabriel Curtis, Director General of the Agency for Promotion of Private Investment. Over the five days during which the event will be taking place, 200 young Guineans between 18 and 35 years old will compete with their initiatives, guineenews.org reports.
At the end of this contest, a number of applications and web content integrating social and economic needs will be selected. Those picked will then benefit from support. “During the week, our aim will not to create jobs. What we do is identify talents. Some develop apps, others have solutions… but lack visibility. They have no space to sell. And this space is what we aim to develop,” said Moustapha Mamy Diaby
Asides the contest, competitors will be introduced to digital entrepreneurship through training sessions and kids will be taught to programming and coding. In the coming years, other towns in Guinea could host the “Webdays and Digital Entrepreneurship Week”.
