The Anse Boileau health centre can now offer better services to its patients thanks to a substantial donation from Airtel.
The donated items worth around R175,000 were presented to the Minister for Health Jean-Paul Adam by the director of Airtel, Amadou Dina, yesterday afternoon at the health centre.
In attendance were the chief executive of the Health Care Agency Dr Danny Louange, special advisor to the minister Dr Loren Reginald, the director of community health services Nicholas Shamlaye, the nurse manager of Anse Boileau health centre Lorna Vidot and staff of the centre.
The scope of the donation varies from IT equipment such as computers, printers and photocopiers to appliances and furniture in the likes of benches, tables and air conditioners.
The telecommunications company also donated several essential medical supplies the medical facility uses on a daily basis which includes nebulisers, blood pressure monitors, wheelchairs among others.
According to Mrs Vidot, who has been the nurse manager at the health centre for over two years, the donation has come at the right time because the centre was in dire need of new medical supplies which will replace the old ones.
“Because the health centre provides services round-the-clock we have to make sure the equipment are up-to-date in order to face any eventuality,” she continued.
On his side Minister Adam expressed his sincere gratitude to Airtel stating that “there is no better way to reach individual Seychellois than by supporting the sector in which every Seychellois, at some point in their life, will be touched by”.
He emphasised that the donation along with the continued dedication of the centre’s staff will go a long way towards improving patients’ everyday experience, which is in keeping with the ministry’s patient-centered care initiatives.
In his presentation speech Mr Dina stated that Airtel’s donation to the Anse Boileau centre is only the beginning of their project to decentralise their corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. The company will be looking into supporting medical centres in other regions.
