(Ecofin Agency) - Gathered at the general assembly held on January 6, 2016, the employees of the Gabon press agency have decided to pursue work despite the non-payment of salaries. The agency’s website is back online after writing has been stopped, thus confirming that the agency indeed previously ceased all writing activities.
Despite the very precarious financial situation of Agp, Gabon’s government denied the information. Between 2009 and 2016, the state subsidy provided to Agp passed from Fcfa1.1 billion to about 200 million FCfa. In addition to accumulating salary arrears, the agency is no more able to insure the regular publication of the daily Gabon Matin.
Agp said it is establishing an emergency plan which it plans to present at the next council of ministers. The Agency even cited minister of communication, Alain Claude Billie By Nze, saying: “Agp’s situation just like Africa n°1 preoccupies the government which at the last council of ministers introduced a number of policies, notably the establishment of a ministerial commission”. Moreover, the minister of Budget “is urging to rapidly find sustainable solutions to this issues which already lasted too long,” the minister of communication said.
