Moroccan authorities announced the launch of the Digital Hub for Sustainable Development (D4SD) at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, a new structure intended to catalyze digital transformation across Africa.
The hub is backed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and carries a total budget of $38 million over three years. The financing includes an $8 million contribution from the Moroccan government and an estimated $1 million in kind contribution from the UNDP. The remainder of the budget will support operations, pilot projects, research, and capacity building to ensure that deployed digital technologies generate tangible social benefits.
Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Morocco’s Minister Delegate to the Head of Government for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, highlighted the initiative’s broader goals. "The initiative we are launching today reflects Morocco's unwavering commitment to making technology a driver of equity, innovation, and opportunity, both within our borders and across Africa and the Arab world," she stated.
She added that the D4SD Hub "translates Morocco's vision of a digital future that leaves no one behind into a concrete reality, driven by our strong commitment and the collective expertise of our partners."
The D4SD Hub is integral to Morocco’s national digital transition strategy and international cooperation efforts. It is designed as an integrated platform to help governments deploy inclusive, large-scale Artificial Intelligence solutions, while fostering innovation, regional cooperation, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
