Tunisia is accelerating public administration digitization with the upcoming launch of the Taamir platform, dedicated to managing building permits, the Tunis Afrique Presse agency reported on Tuesday, April 14. The government designed this tool to modernize a process that stakeholders often consider lengthy, complex and lacking transparency by shifting it into a digital environment.
In practical terms, Taamir will allow citizens and professionals to submit applications online without visiting government offices. The platform will also enable users to track application progress in real time and facilitate interactions among stakeholders involved in reviewing permits. In addition, the system will integrate electronic payment solutions, which will further simplify procedures.
This initiative forms part of a broader public administration modernization agenda. Tunisia ranks among Africa’s most advanced countries in e-government, with a score of 0.6935 on the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI). This score exceeds the global average of 0.6382.
By digitizing the building permit process, authorities aim to improve the quality of public services while strengthening transparency. Enhanced traceability of operations should better regulate procedures and reduce informal practices.
