Chad Invests $126 Million in Ngouri–Mondo–Mao Road Project

  • Chad has launched construction of a 74 km paved road linking Ngouri, Mondo, and Mao.
  • The government is fully funding the project with a budget of CFA70.7 billion ($126.4 million).
  • The project forms part of a plan to build 7,000 km of roads by 2029 to support economic integration.

Chad continues to face major challenges in connecting landlocked regions due to limited transport infrastructure. Therefore, the government is accelerating road investments to strengthen territorial integration and stimulate economic activity beyond the capital.

Authorities officially launched paving works on the Ngouri–Mondo–Mao road, which spans 74 km, on April 27, 2026. The project aims to open up several localities in the country’s central-western region and improve connectivity with key economic hubs.

The government has allocated CFA70.7 billion, equivalent to about $126.4 million, to finance the project بالكامل through public funds. Contractors expect to complete the works within 30 months.

Engineers designed the infrastructure with a 7-meter-wide roadway and 1.5-meter shoulders on each side. They will apply a bituminous concrete surface and build drainage systems, public lighting, and dune stabilization works.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the road will improve mobility conditions and facilitate trade flows. It will also enhance access to basic social services and support local economic development.

The project aligns with the government’s five-year program, which targets the construction of 7,000 km of roads by 2029. In addition, the program includes multiple urban road modernization projects in N'Djamena.

In March, the government presented its 2025 progress report. Authorities reported the paving of 200 km of roads and the development of 1,657 km of unpaved roads. They also completed and commissioned four bridges and constructed four retention basins. However, implementation progress remains below the planned pace. The country still aims to reach its target of 7,000 km of roads by 2029.
