Benin has launched a new digital platform to simplify passport renewal for its citizens living abroad, the government announced on October 21. The initiative, called ePass, aims to fully digitalize the application and delivery process, providing a faster and more efficient service for members of the Beninese diaspora.
Authorities said the platform enables applicants to complete the entire procedure online — from document submission to biometric verification and status tracking — without visiting an embassy or consulate.
According to the government’s statement, “Aware of the historical challenges faced by the Beninese diaspora, including excessive delays, complex administrative procedures, and the remoteness of consular services, the government now offers a rapid, secure, and ICAO-compliant solution.”
The ePass system processes validated applications within four weeks and integrates advanced security protocols to ensure data protection and biometric accuracy.
By digitizing the passport renewal process, Benin seeks to strengthen its connection with citizens abroad while modernizing public administration. Officials said the initiative reflects the country’s broader strategy to enhance efficiency, transparency, and digital governance across public services.
