Senegal and Morocco will hold the 15th session of their Joint Cooperation Commission in Rabat on Jan. 26-27, 2026, Senegal’s Government Information and Communication Office (BIC) said.
It said the visit is part of efforts to strengthen longstanding ties and the strategic partnership between Dakar and Rabat.
Joint commission
The commission is expected to review cooperation in areas including the economy, trade, culture, science and diplomacy. Officials will assess ongoing projects, explore new opportunities and may sign cooperation agreements or protocols. Around 30 agreements still under negotiation could also be discussed.
Morocco’s state news agency MAP also announced a Moroccan-Senegalese economic forum, aimed at helping companies from both countries build partnerships and launch joint projects.
In 2024, Senegalese exports to Morocco reached 24.7 billion CFA francs ($44.6 million), up 26% from 2023. Imports from Morocco totalled 147 billion CFA francs ($265.7 million), up 19.2%.
Trade is heavily skewed in Morocco’s favour, with Senegal importing far more than it exports, underlining the need to diversify exports and expand local processing to increase value added.
Background
The visit comes as 18 Senegalese supporters are in pre-trial detention in Morocco over hooliganism during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
In a statement, Senegal’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko urged people to defuse tensions, saying the incident should remain a sporting matter. He said he was closely monitoring the case in coordination with Moroccan authorities.
