Kenya and Mozambique signed three memoranda of understanding on Thursday to deepen bilateral cooperation, covering diplomatic training, research and capacity building, correctional services, and youth and sports.

The signing coincided with an official visit to Nairobi by Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, who was invited by his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto. Chapo also attended Kenya’s fourth International Investment Conference as guest of honour. The two leaders held talks aimed at strengthening their strategic partnership.

Our cooperation extends to key sectors that drive shared growth and integration, including tourism, clean energy, and aviation as a vital enabler of trade and people-to-people relations, the blue economy and maritime cooperation,” Ruto said. He added that the two countries “are collaborating in counter-terrorism, and the promotion of peace, security and stability,” with a shared goal of advancing “a shared vision for the prosperity of our nations and the continent.”

Kenya and Mozambique established diplomatic relations in 1976. Bilateral trade reached $18.9 million in 2024, according to the International Trade Centre.
