(Ecofin Agency) - Only eight African countries have been listed among the countries with low political risks. This was revealed by global business risks consultancy Control Risks in its riskmap published December 14.

These are: Morocco, Senegal, Cape-Verde, Seychelles, Namibia, Mauritius and Ghana.

However, most countries in Africa exhibit a medium level of political risk. Such are: South Africa, Nigeria, Tunisia, Mali, Cameroon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gabon, Angola, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Benin, Togo, Congo, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Djibouti, Lesotho, Swaziland, Reunion, and Uganda.

22 countries and African territories are ranked under the high-risk category namely: Algeria, Egypt, Niger, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Chad, Libya, Southern Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Burundi, Comores, Gambia, and Zimbabwe.

Control Risks also said political risk in Central Africa and Somalia was “extreme”, two countries characterized by bloody conflicts.
