In 2015, Chinese companies have been awarded a total of $56.7 billion in contracts in Angola, a report published on April 2 by China’s ambassador to Angola, Cui Aimin, shows.
At an event marking the 10th anniversary of China-Angola Chamber of Commerce, Cui said 90% of these contracts was landed by companies which are members of this Chamber of Commerce.
Recalling that China is Angola’s leading trade partner, the Chinese emissary indicated that the bilateral cooperation would now be centered on the development of agriculture, construction of railways and roads, producing electricity and building hospitals.
In August 2015, Angola signed with China a monetary agreement that makes the Yuan the second legal currency used in Africa’s second oil producer.
Similarly, the Kwanza is used in China, according to the agreement which will allow Luanda to import more Chinese goods and depend less on the dollar.
