FNAC, French leader in the retail of cultural and digital products, announced on 7th September, that it would soon open two stores in Côte d’Ivoire, marking its first steps in sub-Saharan Africa. The opening of the two stores will take place as part of a partnership with Prosuma group, one of the leaders in the retail sector in francophone Africa.
The first store of 300 square metres will open in December followed by a second of 800 square metres in February. They will offer books, CDs, DVDs, video games, telephones, connected devices, games and toys, etc.
FNAC describes Côte d’Ivoire as a country “returned to political stability”, “Francophile” and “with a high economic potential”. The opening of the first two FNAC stores in Abidjan is the first step in the future development of the brand in sub-Saharan Africa.
“Aware of the high growth potential of this region as well as the real appetite in many of these countries for cultural goods and consumer electronics, FNAC is initiating its development in Africa by opening in December and February two franchised stores in Abidjan”, the group specified in a press note.
“FNAC wishes to grow in Africa. This new presence is important in the international expansion strategy of our group, as taking on this new continent, in a high potential region, will open new growth opportunities”, added Alexandre Bompard, CEO of FNAC, quoted in the press release.
FNAC is set to continue expanding at the international level. On the African continent, the retailer has been present in Morocco since 2011, at Morocco Mall, the upscale Casablanca shopping centre. The French group also opened a store in May in the Arabic peninsula, in Doha, Qatar in partnership with Darwish Holding.
