BDEAC injects FCFA20bn in ECAir’s development plan

President of Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC), Abbas Mahamat Tolli, and Congo’s Minister of finance and budget, Calixte Nganongo, signed at the BDEAC’s headquarters in Brazzaville, a loan agreement for FCFA20 billion to fund part of the development plan of Congolese airline ECAir.

The loan will serve to modernize the company’s fleet through the acquisition of latest generation airplanes, increasing destinations served by opening new lines, building a maintenance hangar at the Maya-Maya airport of Brazzaville and promoting local jobs by internationalizing skills.

ECAir’s development plan falls under the government’s policy for infrastructures, transports, which are essential for Congo’s socio-economic development. BDEAC said it was glad to help Congo diversify its economy, by, among other things, implementing a transport strategy that aims to make the air sector an important vector for local and regional integration.

Serving capitals and big cities is imperative not only to ECAir, but also for CEMAC since it will facilitate the mobility of populations, goods and services in the region. BDEAC’s decision thus falls in line with its operating priorities and its mission to improve population’s well-being in the sub-region. So far, BDEAC has injected in this program, in Congo, FCFA152 billion.
