The World Bank will lend USD 850 million to Morocco during the fiscal year 2015/2016

Tuesday, 18 August 2015 11:06

The World Bank will grant Morocco a total sum of USD 850 million during the fiscal year 2015/2016 (July 2015-June 2016).

Out of this amount, a loan of USD 150 million has already been approved on 8 July to finance the Large Scale Irrigation modernisation project for the benefit of some 9300 Moroccan farmers in 4 regions: Doukkala, Gharb, Haouz and Tadla.

Four other loans are under negotiation or in the process of being approved.

For an amount of USD 100 million, the first loan will be for the National Electricity and Potable Water Office (ONEE) to finance the establishment of a new integrated management system for water resources in urban areas (I ntegrated Urban Water Management).

The second loan provides support of USD 200 million in favour of the government to better public governance. Developed in collaboration with the World Bank, the European Union (EU) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), the national program of governance aims to strengthen transparency and accountability in the management of public resources and to promote “open and inclusive” governance.

The third loan under consideration is also for an amount of USD 200 million, intended to partially finance a government program to upgrade the urban transportation system, implemented by the ministry of Interior.

Finally, the fourth planned financing, also for USD 200 million, will fund a part of the Development Plan of Greater Casablanca (2015-2020).

It should be pointed out that the partnership strategy Morocco-World Bank for the 2014-2017 period consists of a potential envelope of USD 4 billion.
