Mercer releases list of best African cities to live in 2016

Port-Louis is the best African city to live in worldwide, according to Mercer’s 2016 Quality of Living Survey. Mauritius’ capital which ranked 83rd worldwide out of 230 cities, is followed, in Africa, by South African cities Durban (85th worldwide), Cape Town (92nd) and Johannesburg (95th).

Closing the top 10 of best African cities to live in are Victoria (97th worldwide), Tunis (113rd), Rabat (116th) Casablanca (126th), Windhoek (131st), Gaborone (142nd) in Botswana.

The 2016 Worldwide Quality of Living Survey puts Vienna at the top of cities with the best quality of life in the world, ahead of Zurich, Auckland, Munich and Vancouver.

Capital cities of Yemen (Sanaa), Central African Republic (Bangui), and Iraq (Bagdad) are the worst countries to live in according to the survey.

Mercer’s ranking is based on 39 factors grouped in 10 categories: social and political environment, business environment, socio-cultural environment, medical and health considerations, public services and transport, urban infrastructure, housing, leisure, consumer goods, and natural environment.
