Arbitration, Mediation and Conciliation Centre (CAMC). This will be the name of the structure specialised in the settlement of trade disputes between economic operators, which the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Arts & Crafts of Cameroon (CCIMA) is setting up. This is, as highlighted in an official communiqué from this institution, the first resolution taken during the 11th meeting of its executive board.
CAMC will join other structures of local arbitration such as: Centre d’Arbitrage du Groupement Interpatronal du Cameroun (GICAM), which has been in operation for many years and was led at inception by Ousmanou Sadjo, academic specialised in Business Law. President-Founder of the law firm Centre Africain pour le Droit & le Développement (CADEV – African Centre for Law and Development), Ousmanou Sadjo then launched the Centre Permanent d’Arbitrage et de Médiation (CPAM - Permanent Centre of Arbitration and Mediation), internal structure of CADEV.
According to experts, arbitration is less expensive, more discreet and efficient in the settlement of trade disputes opposing economic operators. From this viewpoint, it appears as an ideal solution in the absence of commercial courts in the country, and with legal proceedings seen as very slow and expensive.
