New national platform offers courses and exercises from preschool to secondary
Initiative aims to ensure learning continuity and modernize teaching methods
Unequal internet access may limit reach, especially in rural areas
Senegal on April 20 announced the launch of a national digital library for students, designed to expand access to educational resources and maintain learning continuity amid frequent disruptions to the school calendar.
The platform is accessible across devices, including smartphones, tablets, and computers, and provides content covering all levels of education, from preschool to secondary school. The materials, validated by teachers, include lessons, interactive exercises, and revision tools. The offering is built around two main solutions: Senkala, focused on assessments and exercises, and Promet, dedicated to course content and independent learning.
The initiative aims to allow students to continue learning outside the classroom while supporting a broader effort to modernize the education system through digital tools. Beyond improving access to content, authorities also hope the platform will help reduce educational inequalities, particularly between urban and rural areas.
However, access to the internet at home remains uneven across the country. According to a survey by the National Agency of Statistics and Demography (ANSD) published in July 2025, 43.8% of households in Dakar have internet access, compared with 16.3% in other urban areas and less than 3% in rural regions. DataReportal figures, which include mobile internet access, are higher: by the end of 2025, Senegal had 11.5 million internet users, representing a penetration rate of 60.6%.
