• Gabon starts 244-km road project linking Ngounié, Ogooué-Maritime
• EBOMAF awarded contract; state-funded with 48-month timeline
• Part of $2.4B plan to modernize national road infrastructure
Gabon has kicked off the construction of the 244-kilometer road connecting the provinces of Ngounié and Ogooué-Maritime. The project, which covers the Yombi to Omboué stretch via Mandji, is intended to boost trade, open up isolated communities, and enhance safety and traffic flow.
The contract was awarded to Burkinabe group EBOMAF, and the project is fully financed by the Gabonese state with a contractual duration of 48 months. This initiative is a key part of the government's plan to modernize the national road network, of which official data indicates less than 20% is in good condition.
The road project falls under a broader investment plan unveiled in January 2024. The government has allocated 1,333 billion CFA francs (nearly $2.4 billion) for road infrastructure between 2024 and 2026. The funds will be used to rehabilitate and develop urban roads in Greater Libreville and provincial capitals, as well as departmental main towns. The plan also includes building new watersheds, maintaining road infrastructure, and rehabilitating major structures like bridges.
