  • OPRAG, AOM Global to design, finance, operate terminal over 24 months

  • Project aims to modernise ferry travel, boost safety, support sector reforms

The Gabonese Ministry of Transport said on Wednesday it had signed a concession agreement for a new ferry terminal in Libreville.

The project will be developed by Gabon’s ports authority (OPRAG) in partnership with AOM GLOBAL, with the private partner in charge of designing, financing, building and operating the facility.

Construction is expected to take 24 months, as part of the government’s strategy to modernise maritime transport infrastructure.

Ferry services have long been a key means of domestic travel in Gabon, particularly on the Libreville-Port-Gentil route, as road links remain limited. The new terminal is expected to ease travel and improve safety standards for ferry operations.

The initiative is also part of reforms aimed at turning around the National Inland and International Navigation Company (CNNII), which has faced recurring operational disruptions and has at times suspended services. The reforms also include plans to renew the ferry fleet.
