Nigeria: Dangote Foundation donates food items to 371, 000 IDPs in Borno

Tuesday, 13 June 2017 18:22

(Ecofin Agency) - The Aliko Dangote Foundation has donated food items worth $625,000 to victims of insurgency and other Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno state. This is aimed at complementing the government’s intervention to bring relief to the people.

This gesture is part of the Foundation’s humanitarian efforts to provide aid to IDPs in the state, according to the Chief Executive of the Foundation, Zouera Youssoufou (photo, right), who made the donation and distribution on behalf of Dangote.

The decision to bring down to Borno the food items was the demonstration of the Foundation’s undertaking to ensure that the IDPs also have a successful Ramadan period just as their other Muslim counterparts in other parts of the world. The Foundation is providing food items worth N200 Million to support the IDPs in the state. Today, the Items the Aliko Dangote Foundation have delivered include: Rice, Spaghetti, Sugar, Salt, Millet, Maize, Noodles, Semolina and Wheat Meal,” she said.

Commending the efforts of the Foundation, the Executive Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency, Ahmed Satome, said a total of 371,000 individuals will benefit from the intervention.

This is not the first time the Foundation is making a donation to the IDPs. Let’s recall that following report of unhealthy conditions in the IDPs’ camp in 2016, the Foundation made a huge contribution of $6million and food items worth hundreds of millions of Naira. The total amount donated by the foundation to several IDP camps across the country has reached $19.6million within a period of five years.
