Yesterday March 28, at the end of a ministerial council, the Benin government announced that it would subsidize agricultural inputs for the 2018-19 campaign which will begin on April 19.
This financial aid will target producers active in palm oil, pineapple, citrus fruits and garden products sectors.
Those producers will receive 12, 596 tons of potassium fertilizer (potassium chloride and potassium sulfate) at a 50% discount (CFA6, 000 per 50 kg).
Let’s note that the government’s main orientations as far as the agricultural sector is concerned are the creation of 7 agricultural development poles and the promotion of 6 important agricultural sectors such as cassava, cashew, market gardening, pineapple, cotton and corn.
For the record, the agricultural sector contributes to 23% of Benin's GDP.
