Egypt to elaborate an AI strategy that would focus on education, research and exports

On January 20, 2019, during a meeting of AmCham Egypt, Egypt’s minister of communication and information technology Amr Talaat (photo), revealed that the government was preparing a national Artificial Intelligence strategy that would focus on education, research and exports.  

For the education and research window of that strategy, an Artificial Intelligence academy is to be created in collaboration with the minister of higher education and scientific research. It will develop capacities and boost innovations in the field.

The exports window will increase revenues generated by the IT sector (revenues that grew by 14.1% to reach $3.25 billion during the 2017/2018 fiscal year).

During the meeting, Amr Talaat explained that the future national Artificial Intelligence strategy demonstrates how important national innovation, a key to a digital society, is for the government.  

He indicated that additional investments are being made to let the country fully leverage IT and the fourth industrial revolution to become one of the countries with high socio-economic growth around the world.
