Mauritius has held discussions with Russia on potential digital cooperation, as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships in innovation and sustainable development. The talks took place during a meeting last week between Mauritian Minister of Higher Education, Science and Research Kaviraj Sukon, Russian Ambassador to Mauritius Irada Zeynalova, and Boris Titov, the Russian president’s special envoy for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The discussions centered on the digitalization of small and medium-sized enterprises, identified by Mauritian authorities as a strategic lever to enhance the country’s economic competitiveness. The Russian delegation outlined possible forms of technical assistance that could support Mauritius in rolling out digital solutions tailored to local business needs, including tools for management, productivity, and market access.
For the Mauritian government, the initiative fits into a broader strategy aimed at developing human capital and fostering innovation. By expanding international partnerships, authorities seek to strengthen the national digital ecosystem and promote more inclusive growth aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
No formal agreements were announced at this stage, but the exchanges are seen as opening the door to future cooperation frameworks. Mauritius has followed a similar approach with other partners, including India, with which it expanded cooperation in 2025 in areas such as science, artificial intelligence, and digital resilience.
