Deal covers counterterrorism, conflict prevention, and cybersecurity cooperation
EU delivers military equipment under €50 million support programme
Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, announced what she called the first agreement of its kind with an African country.
Kallas highlighted the deal’s strategic importance, saying it marks a new phase in cooperation between the two sides. She said the agreement reflects the growing interdependence of security challenges between Europe and Africa.
The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in several key areas, including counterterrorism, conflict prevention and cybersecurity, which both sides consider priorities.
Following the signing, the EU delivered military equipment to Ghana, including surveillance drones, anti-drone systems and motorcycles.
The equipment is part of a €50 million ($57.8 million) security support programme in place in Ghana since 2023.
