(Ecofin Agency) - It is her husband, the ex-president of Madagascar who made the announcement: "I declare that we have won a victory in Antananarivo" rejoiced Marc Ravalomanana whose spouse has just been elected, according to him, Mayor of the capital.

Even before the release of the official results, the camp of the ex-president claims victory with over 55% of votes. However, the polls were characterised by a high rate of abstention.

It was by becoming mayor of the capital that Marc Ravalomanana launched his political career which led him to head of the state in 2003. It is the same path that Andry Rajoelina followed to topple him a few years later.

In this sense, the election of Mrs Ravalomanana to the town hall of Tana could be considered as a first step towards winning back power by her husband.
