(Ecofin Agency) - Resolution of the crisis in Burkina Faso is becoming clearer. The military has sided with the democratic interim government and has converged on the capital. Entering Ouagadougou without violence, it surrounded the putschists and is negotiating for their surrender. "We now need the surrender of the RSP, without firing a shot, without spilling any blood", declared Colonel Serge Alain Ouédrago, Deputy Chief of the Burkinabé gendarmerie to AFP.
In order to avoid any confrontation or score-settling, the Chief of Staff, General Pingrenoma Zagré, called on his troops to "ensure a welcome for their brothers in the RSP".
The Head of the putschists, Gilbert Diendéré, should not put up any resistance: "we confirm our commitment to hand over power to the interim civilian authorities at the end of the definitive exit agreement, concluded under the aegis of ECOWAS", he declared.
The ECOWAS Heads of State should take a decision today on the draft agreement submitted by the mediators, notably by the Senegalese President Macky Sall.
