Deutsche Bank raises USD 285 million for Ecobank group

Friday, 25 September 2015 09:35

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated was granted a facility of USD 285 million by Deutsche Bank AB, who acted with other banks, as the principal bank arranging the financial setup in the framework of a syndicated international loan, on behalf of the Pan African banking group. This new operation brings to USD 535 million the total amount of facilities obtained by ETI through the German bank since December 2014.

The terms binding this facility have not been made disclosed to the public. The communiqué published by Ecobank on the Nigerian financial market simply indicates that the operation was oversubscribed and the offers were intentionally limited to the amount raised. The facility has a maturity of one year and should be used to refinance some existing debts according to Ecobank.

The bank did not provide more details on the debt to be refinanced, nor on the subsidiaries involved. Let us recall that in addition to the USD 200 million received from Deutsche Bank in December 2014, the Pan African group raised USD 150 million from 5 banks, as part of its very first international loan. This would bring to USD 350 million the total amount of resources mobilised, with repayment set for end 2015.
