Angola Seeks Bidders to Manage, Operate Namibe Rail Corridor

Angola’s Ministry of Transport has launched an international tender for the concession of the Namibe Corridor, seeking a private operator to manage, operate and maintain the railway network. The ministry said the initiative aims to attract private investment and tap international expertise to improve the efficiency of rail services.

The tender covers the integration of the Moçâmedes Railway, the commercial port of Namibe, the Sacomar mineral terminal and the Arimba logistics platform, along with links to mineral- and ornamental-stone-rich areas in Huila and Cubango. The project is expected to stimulate the regional economy by supporting the transport of agricultural and agro-industrial products and boosting exports of minerals and timber.

Moçâmedes province holds significant deposits of copper, manganese, chrome, tin and lignite. The Sacomar port, which recently underwent modernization, serves as a logistics hub for the extractive industry. Angola has received funding commitments from the United States and the European Union to complete its full modernization.
