Egypt will inaugurate the Eastern Nile monorail line in November 2025, the presidency said after a meeting between President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir and project partners.
The 56.5 km line will connect Cairo’s Stadium station to the Justice City station in the New Administrative Capital through 22 stations. The timeline for the Western Nile line, linking 6th of October City to Giza’s Wadi El Nil station, has not yet been disclosed.
Together, the two lines will stretch 100 km with 35 stations, accommodating up to 600,000 passengers per line per day. The $4.5 billion project is being developed by a consortium including Alstom, Orascom and Arab Contractors, according to local press reports citing Arab Contractors.
The monorail is part of Egypt’s broader transport strategy to ease congestion in Cairo, a metropolitan area of nearly 20 million residents, and improve connectivity with the new capital. The government has also launched extensive rail upgrades over the past decade to modernize infrastructure, enhance safety and reduce derailments.
