Angola’s state-owned airline, TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola, announced on Wednesday, Oct. 8, that it will transfer all international flight operations from Quatro de Fevereiro Airport to the new António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) on Sunday, October 19.
The carrier will operate all its international routes from the new facility, including flights to Lisbon (Portugal), São Paulo (Brazil), Johannesburg and Cape Town (South Africa), Lagos (Nigeria), Windhoek (Namibia), São Tomé and Príncipe, Maputo (Mozambique), and Nairobi (Kenya). The list also includes regional routes to Brazzaville and Kinshasa, and seasonal routes to Porto (Portugal) and Havana (Cuba).
This move concludes a transition process that began in 2023 and is expected to open the new hub to international carriers.
The AIAAN complex, located in the Icolo e Bengo area near Luanda, can handle up to 15 million passengers annually and is designed to operate alongside the existing Quatro de Fevereiro Airport.
The full operational transfer marks a key milestone for the Angolan government, which aims to establish the area as a major aviation hub connecting Southern Africa, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. With its expanded capacity, modern facilities, and runways capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft, the new airport is expected to improve the passenger experience, boost international air traffic, and strengthen Angola’s position as a regional logistics hub.
