Saturday, 05 September 2015 15:30

In a press note released on 1st September 2015, the world manufacturer of fibre optic submarine network, Huawei Marine Networks Ltd., announced the completion of the installation of the fibre optic between Cameroon and Nigeria. The 1,100 km stretch, christened Nigeria-Cameroon Submarine Cable Systems (NCSCS) is meant to be ready for service during 4th quarter 2015.

NCSCS now links the city of Kribi (South Cameroon) to Lagos (Lagos State, Nigeria). The works were launched on 4th August in Kribi, during a ceremony chaired by Jean Pierre Biyiti bi Essam, Posts and Telecommunications Minister. The broadband infrastructure which will be managed by Cameroun Telecommunications Corporation (CAMTEL), the national Cameroonian operator, was presented by David Nkoto Emane, General Director for CAMTEL, as an asset which will help strengthen “the position of Cameroon as main broadband hub in the region and abroad”.

The Nigeria-Cameroon Submarine Cable System will deliver a capacity of 112.8 Tbps between the two countries. It joins the multiple fibre optic connections developed by Cameroon in the implementation of its national broadband network.
