The National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U), in partnership with technology company AlphaX, presented UGOV last week, a platform designed to centralize all public services within a single digital ecosystem. The initiative aims to improve the quality of interaction between the state, businesses, and citizens.
Launched during a workshop at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, the solution was presented to representatives from several ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize these institutions with the future system and show how UGOV intends to address current gaps in information exchange and service delivery.
According to Julian M. Rweju, acting director of e-government services at NITA-U, UGOV marks “a new chapter” in the country’s digital development. By bringing administrative services together on a single interface, the platform is expected to simplify procedures, reduce processing times, and ensure equitable access to services, including for citizens living in remote areas.
With UGOV, Uganda aims to improve administrative efficiency and strengthen its position as a future regional leader in digital governance. In 2024, Uganda had an e-government development index (EGDI) score of 0.4464 out of 1 in the United Nations global ranking. This score was slightly above the African average of 0.4247 but remained below the global average of 0.6382.
