AngloGold Ashanti operates only one mine in Guinea, the Siguiri gold mine, in which it holds an 85% stake. Last year, the mine delivered 273,000 ounces.
In the first quarter of 2025, AngloGold Ashanti produced 80,000 ounces of gold from Siguiri, a 67% jump from 48,000 ounces in the same period last year.
The company credited this surge to its strategic choice to stop processing Bidini ore. According to its May 9 quarterly report, it also improved carbon-assisted operations and plant stability, which increased throughput.
These operational changes boosted ore processing by 20% at the site. When including the Guinean state’s 15% stake, Siguiri produced about 94,000 ounces of gold in Q1 2025.
Siguiri’s strong performance helped AngloGold Ashanti lift its total attributable production by 22% to 720,000 ounces in Q1 2025, up from 591,000 ounces in 2024. This total includes output from its other African mines: Iduapriem and Obuasi in Ghana, Geita in Tanzania, Sukari in Egypt, and Kibali in the DRC.
Beyond Africa, AngloGold Ashanti runs mines in Australia and South America. The company targets global gold production between 2.9 million and 3.2 million ounces in 2025, with 1.9 million to 2.1 million ounces expected from Africa.
